Taylored Expressions Sneak Peek Day 1: Bold Backgrounds

Happy Monday Taylored Expressions Fans,

Today kicks of day 1 of Sneak Peek week! I hope you are ready for a treat for your eyes. I don't know how it happens. Okay, I do. Go, Taylor! This release features 14 new stamp sets, 16 new dies, two new inks with coordinating cardstock, stencils and yes, LIQUID WATERCOLORS! Wahoo! Let's get this craft party started!

Today, I am sharing cards featuring the Set the Scene-Waves stencils paired with O-Fish-Ally Awesome and Flirty Florals.

I will admit, I am intimidated by stencils. A simple, reusable piece of polyethylene has me running in the opposite direction from my craft desk and inks. However, as crafters we need to be bold. Right? So, I put aside my fears and picked out a few ink colors that would work for a wave background for my O-Fish-Ally Awesome card. My color palette is Salt Water Taffy, Confetti Cake and Cookie Monster. I used the first two colors to create an ombre effect for the waves, and the third ink to add color to the stitched banner panel. I thought it would be more interesting to have the waves moving in varying directions. After laying down a layer of Salt Water Taffy waves, I thoroughly cleaned the stencil, flipped it over and used Confetti Cake to create the next set of waves moving in the opposite direction.

The underwater, aquatic scene uses the O-Fish-Ally Awesome stamp and die set along with the Build A Scene-Underwater dies. I colored the cute critters with Copic markers and colored pencils for added shading and depth. I completed the aquatic scene by using another stencil. Hey! Once I was bitten by the stencil bug, why stop? I used the Bubbly stencil and sparkly embossing paste as a finishing touch.

My second card features a technique I have been wanting to try for awhile, coloring on colored cardstock.

The Flirty Florals Background stamp provided the perfect opportunity to give this technique a try. I inked the Flirty Florals Background using VersaMark ink and heat embossed the stamped image using TE's white embossing powder. I then die cut the panel using the Frayed Edged Stacklets dies. In order to make the colors pop on the Blue Corn panel, I laid down a layer of color using a white colored pencil. Now, I was able to use colored pencils on top of the white base color, which provided a more vibrant colored background. The Tropical Florals stamps and coordinating dies, along with the Script Hello and coordinating backer create a pleasing sentiment and clustered bouquet as a focal point.

Thank you for stopping by. However, the fun is not over yet. Visit the Taylored Expressions Blog (HERE) for information on the products used and more inspiration from the Taylored Expressions Creative Team. As with every release, answer Taylor's Question of the Day to win fabulous prizes from this month's release.

Happy crafting and see you tomorrow for Sneak Peek Day 2.

Hugs,

Keia
