Taylored Expressions Sneak Peeks day 3: Son of the King Bible Journaling Page

Hello Taylored Expressions Fans,

One more day until release day! Are you enjoying the project inspiration? Today, I am sharing with you Son of the King stamp and Little Bits-Hole in One die.

I have been a Bible journaling instructor for one year now, and believe me this was not something I had envisioned doing. But as you are well aware, as one goes about making plans, God might have something entirely different in store for you.

I have used Taylored Expressions stamps and dies before in my Bible journaling and card ministry, and this stamp, too, seemed destined for its own Bible journaling page. Usually, the stamps and dies are part of a larger illustration that fits in with my journaling. In this case, the stamp proceeded my study and became a study into scripture. After prayerful consideration, the passage that resonated with me is from Isaiah 41:8-10 and speaks of the nation of Israel being designated as a servant of the Lord, set apart from the world and chosen and protected by their Heavenly Father.

To create this page, I first prepared the page using clear gesso by Art Basics. The gesso protects the delicate Bible pages by creating a barrier between the page surface and added art mediums (i.e. watercolors, pens, colored pencils, etc.). Next, I searched the internet for images that fit the text. Once I found the images I wanted to reference, it was time to draw my images. I first positioned and stamped the sentiment using Archival black ink. Then using a pencil, I lightly sketched the image. (Note: Once the page is prepared with gesso it is difficult to erase mistakes, so use a light hand when sketching). Once, I was satisfied with the drawing, I went back over the lines with a black PITT Artist pen. Next, I used colored pencils to color and shade the images. I also like to use Gamsol to blend and soften the colored pencils' pigment. Lastly, I highlighted the text and wrote the scripture underneath the image.

ESV Journaling Bible, Drawing Tool Set, Gamsol, Colored Pencils (Dick Blick), PITT Artist Pen (Faber Castell), Light Yellow Glaze (Faber Castell), Gesso (Art Basics), Archival Black Ink

The second project features the Little Bits-Hole in One die paired with Punny Man and Gunny Sack Background.

To create this card, I started by making an A2 top-folding card base from Chocolate Truffle card stock. Next, I used the Chocolate Truffle dye ink to stamp the Gunny Sack Background image onto Toffee card stock. To create the golf scene, I die cut an oval from the Oval Stitched Stacklets paired with the Build A Scene-Rolling Clouds and Salt Water Taffy. The grassy knolls is die cut using the Build A Scene-Grassy Hills and Build A Scene pattern paper pack. The tree is die cut using the Shade Tree Cutting Plate from Toffee card stock and then colored with colored pencils and Gamsol. A sentiment stamped onto Sugar Cube card stock completed this card.

  2. Oh, I love that bible journaling page Keia! That stamp is so perfect and I love your hand drawn image. I have a bible journal, but I haven't had the heart to touch it with ink or other mediums... I keep wanting to do it, but afraid I mess it up. I am not good with free-hand drawing. I'd love to see more of your page! Sweet card. Great layers and scene.
