Taylored Expressions Sneak Peeks...From The Desk Of K

Happy Tuesday Taylored Expressions Fans and Fellow Crafters,

Welcome to Day 2 of Taylored Expressions' November Release. Today's monogrammed vellum card set features Notable Blooms Background, Initially 'K' and Noteworthy.

I enjoyed creating this card set. I don't usually work with vellum card bases, but this proved fun and stretched me creatively. I chose to work with a 65 lb. weight vellum, but anything 45 lb. and above will work as a card base. After gently scoring and folding my 4 1/4" x 11" vellum paper, I used an embossing bag to prep the card surface so I could heat emboss the Notable Blooms image. I found it was best to use my MISTI when stamping to achieve a clean impression. When working with such a fine detailed image, using a superfine embossing powder achieved the best results. For this card, I used Ranger's superfine white embossing powder. Once the embossing powder had been added to the VersaMark stamped image, I applied heat in gentle sweeping motions across the paper. I did not want to leave the heat gun on any one area for an extended period of time or I would warp the vellum. Also, I only applied heat after the heat gun had warmed up (roughly 30 seconds or so).

Originally I tried coloring the image from behind with Copic Markers, but I found this to be unsightly when the card was opened. What worked best was coloring the image using Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens. I could apply the color to the front of the card and the embossing provided recessed areas where the color could pool. Perfect! The inside of the card was made using a sheet of Sugar Cube cardstock measuring 2 3/4" x 4 when cut and scored. To create the monogram, I used the circle die from the Noteworthy Bellyband and the Initially 'K' die. I used the negative space to highlight the monogrammed 'K'. The sentiment "FROM THE DESK OF" is from the the Noteworthy stamp set inked with Sugar Cube pigment ink.

The clear card box and Noteworthy Bellyband complete this card set and make sending this stationary set to a dear friend easy and elegant. I hope you have enjoyed stopping by and now have an idea for a creative gift of your own this holiday season.
