JAS Challenge# 37--Quilting

Good morning fellow scrappers and crafters,

Welcome to another week of challenges with the Just A Scrappin' DT. This week at Just A Scrappin' we are piecing together paper to make a paper quilt design. Please join us by creating a layout, card or project using this technique and do not forget to add a little embossing to your project to kick it up a notch.

My card uses 1 1/2" squares to create a paper quilt. I then stitched around the edges to complete the look. Be sure to check out the other DT members at Just A Scrappin'

You are my sunshine..

I finally had a little time to create cards for my stash, which is dwindling. I love American Crafts' Amy Tangerine paper line and finally had a chance to use it this past week. I love the way the card came together as a cohesive design. I do have those moments where what I envision in my mind is not really what I finally see when the project is complete. This card design was a nice marriage of mind and creativity. Thank you for stopping by.

JAS Challenge #36--Snowmen, Ribbons, and Buttons, Oh My!

Good Morning Fellow Crafters,

We are off to a wonderful Thursday at Just A Scrappin'.  The DT is still in the mood for winter fun as we turn our attention to the iconic winter character, the snowman. The week's challenge is to make a project, card or layout using a snowman, ribbon and buttons.

I am still in my glitter phase. Note to self, "Why have I not used this cool embellishment before this month?" Anyway, I did not have tiny buttons in my stash so I opted for brads as an alternative. I used a little glitter to add some sparkle and put sunglasses on my oh so cool snowman. Here comes the man...

Raiding the Stash Challenge: Come Back, Oliver!

Okay, it is time for me to raid my stash and use some of my paper that is not necessarily collecting dust, but rather sitting on the sidelines. Paper deserves to be in the spotlight, and in the game. I fell in love with Basic Grey's Oliver collection when I spotted it last year. I have two boys and a teenage nephew and the mix of sophistication and grunge would work for the boys in my life.

I will admit, I did complete a scrapbook page for my sister (of my nephew skating boarding) using the Oliver collection, but after that layout it was back to the sidelines. With that in mind, this paper collection met my standards for being worthy for a "Raiding the Stash" post.

My brother-in-law is celebrating his birthday this month and I thought the paper and chipboard character are a perfect fit for his personality. Robert is the epitome of style mixing old school grunge, with contemporary clothing finds.

JAS Challenge #35: Let It Snow!

Are you still enjoying the chilly weather in your neck of the woods? This week at Just A Scrappin' we are using the weather as a creative jumpstart to this week's challenge. At Just A Scrappin' we are welcoming the snow, more accurately, snowflakes to create beautiful cards, layouts and projects. However, a snowflake would not be the dazzling creation it is without a little sparkle. So don't forget to add a little glitter to make your snowflakes shine.

Just A Scrappin' Challenge #34--New Year, New Technique

Good Morning Fellow Crafters and Scrappers,

At Just A Scrappin' we are starting off the new year with learning a new technique. While I might not be new to stamping (I usually stamp my sentiments), I am new to using a stamped image as the focal point of my card. In addition, coloring the image is also a new technique and goal I would like to learn for 2013. I love the cards made by stampers. The stamped and colored images just seem to pop right off the page.

A Birthday Card for Cooper

Both of our boys were born in the last few months of the year, so fall and winter is a very busy time for our family. As our youngest turned two, our oldest was gearing up for his moment in the spotlight. Cooper was very aware his birthday was around the corner, four days after Christmas to be exact. Not only did he continually reminded me of the momentous occasion, as if I would forget such a special day, he had specific ideas about what he wanted for his birthday.

I enjoyed making this card for our little man. He wanted a party and the card is a reflection of his desire to dance, sing and just enjoy his special day with his family and friends.

A Birthday Card for Clayton

I will admit, I become so wrapped up in making cards for everyone else that I am often left scrambling to make a card for those nearest and dearest to my heart. Our son, Clayton, turned two and there I was knowing I needed to make a card, and yet there was no card to be found. This simply would not do. Not for our little man. Granted, I know Clayton is not the least bit interested in a card; however, I would know. And one day he will look back and wonder were was his card.  So a card for Clayton it is.

I am happy to write I did complete the card prior to his birthday. And while the card was the least of his  concerns; nevertheless, it was there and I knew it was there.

Raiding the Stash!

Ok, so I am starting off the new year with another challenge for myself--clean out my stash. For me, there is something about walking into a craft store and thinking, "Oh, that embellishment is too cute! I know I can use that embellishment for something." And there is where the downward spiral begins...well for me anyway.

This card uses an acrylic flower I have had since February 2012...too long. I fellow scrapper I meet last year at a scrapbook convention, gave me several acrylic flowers after I commented on the fact I had never worked with acrylic. While I was happy to try out this new embellishment, the bright yellow color seemed a little overwhelming to me and so the poor flowers have languished in my craft room ever since. Not good. By far this is not the oldest embellishment in my stash; however, it is one that stops me in my creative tracks. What better way to challenge myself then to step up to the plate and see where the creative winds would take me?

I thought to keep the card simple because of the overpowering color and pair it with a simple sentiment. I embossed the white flower on top to add a little dimension. I am happy with the results. And this experience has given me confidence to look at each embellishment as a piece that can stand on its own.

A New Year...Another Opportunity to Create

The end of one year and the ushering in of another allows one to reflect and take stock of where he/she is and where one would like to be. For me, 2012 brought with it challenges, but also joyous moments. As a crafter, I had opportunities to stretch my creative wings and learn new skills, build relationships with fellow scrappers and start a card business. I am blessed.

The new year is poised for me to continue building on the foundation laid in the previous year with a few extras. I have learned I love my embellishment stash to the point of hanging on to various embellishments for several months, if not years. No more. This year, I challenge myself to let it go. I am planning on creating a card, per week, using an embellishment from my stash. I will continue my monthly scraps challenge for I have had great success with keeping my paper stash in check.  Like my blog's moniker implies I am a paperholic at heart.  I would like to see one of more card creations published. Card magazine is at the top of my list. And lastly, use my new camera to take better pictures of my card creations. I will write that is at the top of my list.
